Amico Key Ingredient: Phyllanthus niuri

Phyllanthus niuri

is a small tropical plant known being Ayurvedic, Amazonian, Spanish, and Portuguese traditional medicine to treat chronic fever, stomach, spleen, liver, kidney and urinogenital ailments.

Phyllanthus niuri is well known as ‘Chanca piedra’ (Spanish) or ‘Quebra-pedra’ (Portuguese), which means ‘stonebreaker’. It is effective to treat kidney stones {Boin et al., 2010; Pucci et al., 2018} and gallstones {Alok et al., 2013}.

Phyllanthus niuri protects liver from toxin{Manjrekar et al., 2008; Amin et al., 2012}, reduces fatty liver and atherosclerosis thus reduces risks of cardiovascular disease and insulin resistance (type 2 diabetes) {Zarzour et al., 2017}.

Beside hepatic factors of diabetes, Phyllanthus niuri inhibits excessive α-glucosidase and α-amylase activities (reduce GI of diet), thus have direct anti-diabetes importance. {Okoliet al., 2011}

As it protects stomach from gastric acid, studies also discovered that Phyllanthus niuri extract strengthens mucosa tissue from ulceration, haemorrage, edema, and infections {Mostofa et al., 2017}.
